Riviera Maya

There are many great places to visit along the Riviera Maya – either by ADO bus or, the best option by rental car:

Puerto Morellos – our favourite place for snorkelling along the coast. The small town has a very laid back Mexican atmosphere. The boats by the pier take you out to the reef for snorkelling
Tulum – the world famous Mayan ruins and also the fantastic beach that stretches to the south of the ruins
Akumal – a beautiful bay where many turtles can be seen. It is possible to snorkel from the beach and have a good chance of seeing a turtle. Inevitably, this area has become much more crowded in recent years and snorkelling is now controlled to protect the environment
Akumal lagoon is a great place for fresh water snorkelling. A great option to combine with a morning snorkelling with turtles at the nearby Akumal beach.  (The lagoon is about 2 miles from the main beach Рfollow the road to the left Рbest to seek directions).

Paamul – a few km south of Playa is this quiet and beautiful bay with a popular restaurant
Swim with Whale Sharks during the season – late August through September. Boats leave from Isla Holbox or Cancun
Xpu-Ha beach club – relaxing music, snorkelling from the beach, relax in a hammock…
Xpu-Ha Coral
Just off the beach by the Xpu-Ha beach club, it is easy to snorkel and see this coral – photo taken 2016

Akumal Bay in quieter times
