There are many events in the Riviera Maya and here are some that may be of interest. As dates can change, we suggest that you also check with the event website before making specific travel plans based on any one event.
May 26 – 27 – Travesía Sagrada Maya Re-enactment of the ancient sacred mayan crossing to Cozumel in traditional canoes.
September 16 – Mexican Independence Day
Autumn Equinox – Chichen Itza – shadow of the equinox
October 22 – Playa beer and street food festival
Dia de los Muertos – November 2. In the Riviera Maya, this is less evident to the tourist than elsewhere in Mexico. There will be various altars in the centre of Playa del Carmen, but the evening show at Xcaret is an excellent event for tourists who wish to learn about this part of Mexican culture
November 6 – 12 2017 – PGA Golf Tournament at Mayakoba.
Early November – Film festival
Riviera Maya Jazz Festival – November 30 – December 2 at Mamitas
Carnival – February 9 – 14 – it may be smaller than Rio, but has a great atmosphere. Check local posts for the exact route, but it will end up each evening in the main downtown square by Walmart. The Cozumel carnival is more famous and it is easy to catch the ferry to see this carnival procession as well.
Spring Equinox – Chichen Itza – shadow of the equinox
